Since the founding of Sooyang Do on 19th May 2003, it has become firmly established as the most popular martial art in the North East of Scotland, with around 1000 active participants and 30 separate locations at the time of writing.
The individual and collective dedication of our instructors, which has brought us to this position, has also led to us being the first martial arts organisation to be awarded CLUBCAP and subsequently advanced CLUBCAP accreditation from both Aberdeenshire Council, and Aberdeen City Council, a level of recognition which reinforces our standing as a responsibly and scrupulously run organisation.
All of our instructors hold up to date First Aid certification, PVG Accreditation and Public Liability Insurance and also regularly attend nationally recognised additional third party coaching sessions to continually improve their coaching skills and to reinforce their awareness of issues such as those surrounding the teaching of children and vulnerable adults.
Sooyang Do is specifically designed to be suitable for all ages (5 upwards) and for all ability levels. No previous martial arts experience is necessary and the main requirement is enthusiasm.
Each belt level has a formal syllabus, which must be learned and demonstrated to an acceptable standard, to enable the student to progress to the next level. The technical progress of each student is monitored by way of grading events (belt examinations) which are held every three months and students must train, on average, twice per week to be eligible for grading.
