Great achievements for Sooyang Do Instructors and members
The positive developments within Sooyang Do continue at a pace with new schools opening, instructors being promoted, hundreds of students grading and a whole range of initiatives on the part of our hard working team.
Some three hundred students took part in the recent belt examinations of 24th and 25th March and Master Wood, home from France for the occasion and full of enthusiasm following the recent promotion of his students there, was moved to remark on the fantastic technical standard of all those involved.
During the course of a wonderful weekend of Sooyang Do achievements, Master Wood had the pleasure of announcing the promotion of two long-serving instructors, Ms Maya Hart and Mrs Susan Staniforth to the rank of Chief Instructor. Other recent promotions have seen Mrs Patricia Forbes from our Summerhill club promoted to the rank of Class Instructor and Mr James Yeats and Mr David Morrison enrolled as Trainee Instructors at our Portlethen club.
Mr Bremner has recently announced the opening of yet more Sooyang Do schools, one on Deeside with the establishment of a club in Finzean, and the other in Cults which is currently being taught by Miss Finnie, whilst Mr Roberts is to open a school at Premnay.
Congratulations goes to Class Instructor Mr Christie on becoming a school owner. Mr Christie has been teaching at Kaimhill under Mr Bremner’s supervision for a while now and has now been rewarded by Mr Bremner for all his hard work, dedication and commitment by being given the opportunity to take over the running of the Kaimhill club.
PROMOTING SOOYANG DO
Mr & Mrs McIver, Mr Bremner and Mr Roberts are continuing their close working relationship with Active Schools and are working with their local active schools network to deliver Sooyang Do Martial Art Workshops to a wide range of Primary and Secondary schools within their areas, building a closer relationship with their local communities.
UK Sooyang Do students from Portlethen, Summerhill, Bridge of Don and Westhill raised £360 for Children in Need holding special Pudsey martial art classes. The clubs had the privilege of having Pudsey (the Children in Need mascot) come along and join in the action, which was a fantastic surprise for our junior members.
SOOYANG DO COMPETITION
The latest Sooyang Do sparring competition is to take place on 16th June 2018 and places are available to all students of the rank of Bo Dan and above who have attended the specialised sparring classes and who have been deemed eligible by their instructors. These competitions have proved to be very successful and enjoyable events in the past thanks to the hard work and professionalism of Mr Bremner and Mr Collins and it is to be hoped that this continues.
Although Sooyang Do do not officially sanction or allow students to officially represent Sooyang Do in external competitions, not least because of our inability to influence the duty of care at such events, it is a matter of record that some of our students have performed extremely well in external competitions, participating as unaffiliated individuals, and it is only fair that they receive some recognition for this. In one such recent event in Edinburgh, three of our students; Mr Adam Milne, Miss Joe McPherson and Mr Jakub Wielgosz won a variety of medals and acquitted themselves well. Congratulations to all three and well done!
